Sure, it’s easy to stick a bag of buttery popcorn in the microwave and wait for the magic to happen, but there’s actually a better (and more customizable) way to enjoy this treat. We’re talking about good ol’ classic stove-top popcorn, and this video illustrates how to make the perfect batch of popcorn each time.

All you need is oil and kernels – the trick here is to use three test kernels as a way to tell when the oil is ready for the kernels.

Once they’ve popped, add your kernels and take the pot off the heat for 30 seconds so the kernels all warm up together.

Then, return the pot to the heat and shake until they’re all nicely popped.
